I have been away sick for more than a week, but I'm back now.
If you are new to this blog, you may not know that the Navigable Waters Protection Act (NWPA) was amended during the recent federal budget process without any consultation with the Canadian people - it was slipped into the budget and forced through.
The Senate has agreed to
hold hearings on the NWPA (After the fact, but at least it is something.). Those hearings started on April 23rd and are continuing for 2 hours every Tuesday and Thursday up to May 14th (except April 30th). A handful of groups have been picked by the committee to appear. Each speaker will have 5 to 7 minutes to speak, followed by questions from the Senators.
The Canadian Rivers Network will be presenting on May 5th. So is Paddle Canada. Other groups are participating on various dates.
If you or your group can and want to participate in these hearings, there is still time to contact the committee. Please contact: Lynn Gordon Clerk The Senate 1053 Chambers Building, 40 Elgin Street Ottawa Ontario K1A OA4 Canada tel. (613) 991-3620 fax (613) 947-2104 toll free 1-800-267-7362
