The exciting new sport of River Surfing is really starting to grow in Alberta! Think of surfing on an ocean wave (cue ‘Hawaii Five-O' theme sound). Except every ocean wave eventually crashes into shore and dies, whereas the ‘standing waves' of our mountain-fed rivers never really die. Ocean surfers dream of the "endless wave" but only River Surfers actually surf them!

I and some of the guys at Undercurrents started learning to surf last fall and had a blast! It is a lot different than ‘surfing' in a canoe or kayak - there is more of a sense of intimacy with the river in river surfing. And it is a new source of excitement and challenge on the same river's we've paddles for years!

Since it was hard to get good river surf specific boards and gear, we've decided to carry good stuff at Undercurrents. We're bringing in the best brand names in river surfing. Stuff is arriving now and all summer.

And, to help others discover the same joy we are experiencing, we have opened a river surf school - one of only a few in the world!

We are bringing the world's best known river surf instructor to personally train our local instructors so all course participants receive maximum fun, learning and safety!
