So what makes Brad worthy of this distinction? According to the media release, "his combination of athletic talent, intelligence, good looks and charm earned him the nomination; but it was his charitable giving and good heart that secured the top honor for the professional kayaker" Brad started "First Descents", an outdoor adventure program for young adults with cancer. The organization offers free trips for kids fighting the disease and offers them the opportunity to challenge themselves in the outdoors. The goal is for the physical and emotional challenges of the experience to play a key role in recovery. According to Cosmo Editor-in-Chief, Kate White, "We knew Brad was passionate in his volunteer work, but we picked him, too, for his great looks and his passion for life!" Brad receives a $10,000 prize which he is donating to First Descents. We have to wonder if all the teasing he will receive on the river is worth it?
